Figure Skating is unique at the Chester County Skating Club because it is a recreational rink. We are non-competitive, and not affiliated with any competitive figure skating organizations. Our students strive for a personal best, and just have fun. Our instructional staff is well qualified to instruct all levels of skating.

Learn to Skate is offered for the beginning skater. This is a group lesson conducted during Family Skate time on a sectioned-off area of the ice. The instructor-to-skater ratio is usually small. The minimum age is on or after the skaters 4th birthday. Skaters may be in the Learn to Skate program for one, two, or even three years. This program starts on October 21st and meets each Sunday at 3:00 to 3:45 pm throughout the entire season. The fee for Learn to Skate is $100. Parents must remain at the rink during instruction. Helmets, mittens or gloves, and warm clothing are required. To register call Hilary Eberle at (610) 268-5616.
Secondary Skills is group instruction for students who have successfully mastered the skills taught in Learn to Skate (backward skating, stopping, beginning crossovers, balance on one foot, etc.). This group usually consists of 10 to 11 skaters with one instructor. The lesson is taught on a section of ice during the Figure Skating time on Monday evenings at 5:30 - 6:00pm. The skaters are then able to practice after the lesson for 15 minutes in that same section of ice. Fees, sign ups and scheduling are done by Martha Callahan at 302-234-3448.
The type of instruction beyond Secondary Skills is based upon the instructors’ recommendation.
Small Group Instruction is offered for skaters who would best benefit from small group instruction. Groups may be as small as two skaters, or as many as five. Group instruction may be taught by any of the instructors, and fees vary.
Private Instruction is for more advanced skaters and is offered on a first-come, first-serve basis. Instructors offer individual instruction on Monday and Wednesday evenings. Instructors’ fees may vary.
Skaters should call their instructors early to reserve lesson time. If you are qualified for private instruction, but do not have an instructor, call Clare Ward for assistance at (610) 444-8244.
Annual Ice Review is every March. It is a wonderful opportunity for our skaters to show their newly acquired skills to friends and family. Participation is optional, but it is too much fun to miss!
