Tim Ondra’s Off-Ice Training Center
Off-ice training is an excellent way to get one-on-one goalie coaching, and a few laughs at the same time! Tim Ondra and I do lessons at the training center and we both like to laugh and have fun while we work. The reason for playing sports is that you have fun doing it and we’ve continued playing and coaching for that same reason. The surface at the Training Center is a synthetic material which provides slightly more resistance than ice, this forces the goalie to work hard and as a result improve stamina and strength. A half hour of one-on-one work is usually all it takes to gives the goalie a great workout. The Training Center is located at 1342 West Chester Pike in West Chester.
Tim Ondra and Jim Murray started the Training Center almost 10 years ago and so far close to 400 goalies have gone there for lessons. Tim’s been coaching goalies for over fifteen years and works almost exclusively at the Training Center. The 1 on 1 environment allows us to customize the training for each individual goalie and focus on specific save techniques that need improvement. Sticks saves, pad saves, glove saves, lateral movement and every coaches favorite, rebound control, are just the beginning when it comes to goaltending and we do all that and more. We talk about goaltending philosophy, how to be a goalie your team will play hard for, how to incorporate an off-ice exercise program , and whenever possible we help our goalies move on to play college or junior hockey. Used goalie equipment can also be bought or sold at the Training Center. For young goalies used equipment is a great way to cut down the cost of playing the position. Since you can often times get some money for your old equipment and get you’re “new” used equipment at a lower price, the “net amount” of money saved can be significant.
